Jackson Pack N Ship store is a drop-off location for used packing peanuts.

Jackson Pack N Ship has launched a community recycling service for plastic foam loose fill, better known as packing peanuts, at their location on 1737 Spring Arbor Road in Jackson.  Clean packing peanuts commonly used in shipping containers can be taken to Jackson Pack N Ship for re-use.  “We’ll take any quantity as long as there is no foreign material mixed in with it and it is in clean bags or boxes,” said owner Wayne Sowers.  Jackson Pack N Ship is a member of the Plastic Loose Fill Council, headquartered in Crofton, Maryland and the Recycling Jackson organization.  According to council literature, peanuts are made of expanded polystyrene (EPS) plastic.  EPS products do not degrade in landfills.  Instead, packing peanuts mummify in the oxygen-deprived environment of modern landfills.  According to Sowers, peanut durability and resiliency makes them very suitable for repeated use.  “A few environmentally conscious customers and local businesses bring in packing peanuts already”, said Sowers.  “I believe the growth of internet transactions has made packaging peanuts a nuisance in most homes and businesses and we need a place that everyone knows to drop them off.  Jackson Pack N Ship is now an official collection site.”
